Beschreibung

2.5 ECTS
After successful completion of the course, students are able to measure the viscosities of fluids, apply Laser-Doppler anemometry and hot wire anemometry to measure velocities, make flows visible either with the Schlieren-method or on model flows such as the Hele-Shaw cell and the shallow water channel, explain the observed phenomena, and measure the drag and lift of an airfoil profile. Units of 4 hours each on the following topics: (i) viscosimetry, (ii) classical optical measurement methods, free convection, compressible flow; shallow water channel, (iii) instabilities: Taylor-Couette-flow, (iv) icing of a wing profile in the subsonic wind tunnel (hot wire anemometry, 6-component force balance), (v) Particle Image Velocimetry or Laser Doppler Anemometry, (vi) diffusion and fingering in a Hele-Shaw cell.
