A Hybrid Structural Health Approach for Bridge Monitoring

Aktivität: Vortrag ohne Tagungsband / Vorlesung › Eingeladener Vortrag bei einer wissenschaftlichen Konferenz oder Institution

Beschreibung

Bridges are still primarily assessed through periodic visual inspections, leaving long intervals in which structural changes may go undetected. This case study presents a hybrid structural health monitoring (SHM) approach that integrates distributed fiber-optic sensing with conventional point sensors to combine spatial coverage with high-precision dynamic measurements. Tests on Austria’s Aurach motorway bridge demonstrate how this complementary strategy improves diagnostic reliability and supports continuous, lifecycle-oriented bridge monitoring.
