Abstract

Attracting and engaging human talent to engineering in general and the field of Intelligent Transport systems (ITS) in specific is a key success factor to meet the challenge of creating efficient, environmentally friendly and affordable mobility systems. The term "intelligent transport systems" is rather abstract and thus only vaguely associated with mobility by young people. Moreover, ITS is a young academic and professional field and cannot yet fully convey its significance as an attractive career choice to young people. Empirical evidence shows that attracting young talents to science and technology is a complex task and many practical approaches fail due to simplistic assumptions about factors affecting interest, motivation and career choice. This paper presents an integrated, systemic approach and a coherent set of instruments at the interface of science, technology and education which may contribute to reaching these goals.
