Abstract
The introduction of electric and hybrid vehicles in the traffic is changing the soundscape of the traffic
noise. Forever is a two-year project aimed at analyzing the potential future noise impact on national roads,
while other projects focus mainly on urban environment. The project started in the beginning of 2013 and
the measurements campaign has been performed in summer 2013. In this paper results connected to work
package 3, which is led by AIT, are be presented. WP3 focuses on the noise produced by the tyre-road
interaction. For electric and hybrid vehicles the noise from the engine is completely or partly missing, thus
bringing in foreground the tyre-road noise. Specific tyres have been chosen, where the rolling resistance is
low, the wet grip is good and the noise emitted is low. These tyres have all the features that are important
for electric and hybrid vehicles and are a good representation of the future tyre market for these vehicles.
Controlled pass-by measurements (CPB) have been performed with these tyres on a Renault Fluence ZE
on a typical road surface and the results discussed.
