Abstract
This paper was written as documentation for the bachelor-project "Visualisation of RoadSTAR-data in a GIS" accomplished during an internship of the author at the company "arsenal research". The project deals with detection, classification, segmentation and visualisation of geometric elements in the course of the road based on data collected by the mobile measurement system RoadSTAR. To meet these demands several algorithms were developed, implemented with the programming language C# and the results were optically evaluated with the help of a Viewer-application implemented for this special reason. Based on the results of this evaluation-process an application was developed, which is able to read RoadSTAR-measurement-files and writes them added by the geometrical classifications. In addition the software offers a preview of the data to be classified. The second implemented piece of software reads these data and converts them into the ESRI shapefile-format for visualisation in the ArcGIS-software. For this purpose ArcObjects, a programming interface of ArcGIS, were used. The shapefiles created with these two applications were imported into a GIS and blended with data about road accidents from "Statistics Austria" with the help of ESRI ArcGIS. With this GIS, analysis concerning possible causalities between certain geometrical combinations in the course of the roads and the risk of road accidents should be afforded. This paper gives a detailed overview about the project and its results.
