Abstract
The dielectric properties of body tissues are determining factors for the dissipation of electromagnetic energy in the body and therefore they are important parameters in Medicine and Physics, as e.g., in hyperthermia treatment, microwave detection of tumours and in assessment of exposure acenarios. We measured various types of freshly excised, untreated human tissue and animal tissues in vivo in the radio frequency and microwave frequency range aiming at the in vivo dielectric properties of human tissue, taking into account that postmortal changes in the tissue and chemical and/or physical treatment of excised tissue samples might significantly affect the measurement results. Based on reliable measurement results tissue simulation liquids, semisolid phantom materials could be developed for various experimental applications in various frequency bands.
