Abstract
Most measurements of NIR exposure (Non-Ionizing Radiation) due to GSM base stations are conducted on request by people who feel discomforted or harmed. In 2001, a first systematic study about maximum field strengths around GSM base stations in the context of environmental legal requirements for low limits was undertaken in the city of Salzburg, using the Swiss measurement recommendation. This report describes the difference between coverage and exposure measurements, and managerial and organizational prerequisites for the choice of measurement sites and for the preparation of the measurements. Within this context of measurement procedure, mea-surement method, data analysis and extrapolation are discussed.
