Abstract

The indoor comfort and the ventilation characteristics inside an office room equipped with a façade-integrated ventilation system have been analysed by means of Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD). As the tool of choice, owing to its applicability and availability, the CFD library suite OpenFOAM® has been used. The purpose of this analysis is to investigate the indoor comfort and ventilation characteristics reached using the façade-integrated ventilation system, with respect to the arrangement of the modules of those Ventilation systems within the façade. Namely, by changing the disposition of these modules (e.g. symmetrical or asymmetrical), as well as the ventilation parameters (air volume flow) different flow patterns are obtained, resulting thus in different air exchange rates and obtained ventilation efficiencies. Taking the indoor comfort as the parameter for evaluating the ventilation performance, the present analysis will quantify the influence of the geometrical disposition and the ventilation parameters on the optimal ventilation performance.
