Abstract
Metal matrix composites are characterized by their high-density specific stiffness as well as modulus of elasticity, furthermore they are more temperature stable than carbon fibre reinforced plastics and thus offer a wider range of applications. Another important aspect for aerospace is the thermal expansion, which in this case is ~0 over a very wide range.
Specimen fabrication is done using the gas pressure infiltration process, this has already been researched in a predecessor project and serves as the basis for the specimens created in this project. Specimens with fibre reinforcement in 0°, 0.90° as well as quasi-isotropic layer structure were fabricated using this production method. Concepts for the production of the advanced geometries were developed and manufactured. Profiles with C, L and O geometries were manufactured this way.
From the specimens thus produced, test samples were made with which a mechanical characterization and a microstructural analysis were carried out.
