Abstract
We explore trade-offs between Industry 5.0 pillars in a future oriented analysis. Four framework scenarios are presented with a discussion on trade-offs of industrial transformation from an industry 5.0 perspective. To incorporate a perspective on trade-offs from the beginning may help firms, industries and policy makers in devising their strategies for pursuing the I5.0 objectives.
Methodically, this paper builds on scenario analysis, which assumes that the future is not predetermined. The scenarios were designed with the timeframe 2035-2040, on the level of industrial practices shaped by developments around technologies thereby impacting on work, jobs and skills. The scenarios differ in how they approach work and social security. Only two scenarios invest in good jobs, development, and protection for workers, and consider this a major source for the viability and competitiveness of firms. The work environments are sketched through a focus on operators’ work in the different scenarios and thereby illustrate the differences in work and job quality.
