Seasoning Properties of Sunbed-Lamps

The management of a tanning house has the liability to classify their sunbeds under the existing standards (EN 60335-2-27:1997). This allows an evaluation of possible effects for different skin types, which result from being exposed to UV - radiation. Therefore it is necessary to measure the spectral irradiance of the UV-lamps and after weighting the measured value with the erythema action spectrum, the type of the sunbed can be determined. According to the standard EN 60335-2-27:1997, the measurement of the spectral irradiance should to be done after a seasoning duration of 5 hours +- 15 minutes. The seasoning properties of 15 types of sunbed-lamps have been analysed for seasoning durations of up to 30 hours and the consequences for the classification of sunbeds will be discussed.
