Abstract
The thermal monitoring of a lithium-ion battery (LIB) in an electric vehicle is essential for safe use [1]. There is a strict operating temperature window (15-35 °C). Therefore, proper thermal management is important! A problem with the current external temperature measurement is that the internal temperature is higher than the external temperature. A promising alternative to the thermocouples are fiber optic sensors. These sensors are small and lightweight and can be integrated into LIBs. We measured a hysteresis between heating and cooling for the embedded fibers and present explanations for this behavior.
