Abstract
The peri-urban may be the dominant urban design and planning
challenge of the 21st century. It is not only an in-between
fringe, but a new and rapidly growing multifunctional territory,
often with globalised industries, high mobility and transport
dependence, fragmented communities and degraded
landscapes. In this chapter, we look at the dynamics of growth
and change, a range of alternative scenarios for the future
and the respective results of the PLUReL scenario modelling.
