Description
The digital identity industry has been providing Facial Recognition services in use, for instance, at international borders for identity verification, or in movie theaters for age verification for many years. However, the changing legal landscape for Canadian Artificial Intelligence tools is raising questions on how these changes are impacting the industry. In October 2022, the government of Canada released the “Facial Recognition technology and the growing power of artificial intelligence”, a report addressing Facial Recognition, its benefits and concerns. How can we better bridge perceived gaps between the digital identity industry and the government regarding facial recognition and AI as products? What does the evolving Canadian legal framework mean for the industry and digital identity use cases? Are there inherent risks that human-center designed digital identity can help to mitigate? Where does the DIACC's Pan-Canadian Trust Framework (PCTF) and Voilà Verified position themselves in this legal context? This panel will share experience based insights regarding the challenges and the opportunities to ensure safe learning and workspaces for all. Share your perspectives regarding specific use cases, opportunities, and challenges for the path forward.
