Atrial fibrillation is the most frequent heart arrhythmia and - moreover - one of the most important risk factors for the occurrence of stroke. In clinical diagnoses paroxysmal atrial fibrillation often remains unrecognised if the arrhythmia is not manifest in the recorded electrocardiogram.
