Evaluate decarbonized energy supply systems with a comprehensive mathematical optimization model

Activity: Talk or presentation / LecturePresentation at a scientific conference / workshop

Description

In this work, the representation of three different typical plants in the model is shown. Furthermore, optimal results for a variation of energy price levels, including green hydrogen, the impact of fossil and biogen partwise and complete decarbonization, and the impact of changing regulatory frameworks for the assessment of energy sources’ CO2 neutrality are elaborated. The impact of these variations on the cost structure is discussed. General trends can be summarized as follows:
(i) Operational costs determine the overall costs.
(ii) With increasingly ambitious decarbonization targets including biogen emissions also a trend towards electrification (e.g., the integration of high-temperature heat pumps and electric boilers) can be determined.
(iii) Complete fossil and biogen decarbonization leads to approximately double annual costs compared to current cost levels.
