Moral Inner Speech Agents to Support Health Choices in Challenging Environments

Activity: Talk or presentation / LecturePresentation at a scientific conference / workshop

Description

Digital Voice Agents (VAs) are used in work environments to support productivity and safety with verbal interactions designed to retrieve information, trigger networked devices and, more recently, to represent humans in extended reality training applications. However, the ongoing development of industry 5.0 holds humans at the center of the production process, and thus adding health support on the current productivity-driven VAs is needed for social sustainability. Therefore, this paper proposes that personal values are integrated into VAs to represent self-internal moral dialogue. This artificial inner speech aims to encourage the users´ constructive behavior and elicit a sense of self-fulfillment, i.e., a stimulus that positively influences the perceived affective quality of VAs. The profession of medical first responders was chosen to question the feasibility and pertinence of the design of Value Oriented Interactions in Challenging Environments (VOICEs) given its current adoption of VAs, frequent exposure to high mental strain, and resulting prevalence of mental health disorders.
