Prediction of Mechanical Properties of Al-Mg-Si Alloys Based on Microstructural Parameters

Activity: Talk or presentation / LecturePresentation at a scientific conference / workshop

Description

Simulation and prediction of material characteristics and behavior play an everincreasing role in industry and research. In precipitation hardenable alloys, the heat treatment parameters have a decisive influence on the mechanical properties. In this work, the microstructure of 6xxx alloys in terms of different populations of second phase particles resulting from different artificial ageing times are used to calculate the yield strength, fracture strain, and fracture toughness. This is achieved by a combination of thermo-kinetic (CALPHAD) and micromechanical models. The results are compared with experimental data and good agreement is shown.
