Description

For many fields of research, including migration studies, social media platforms have often been seen as a low-cost, readily available, means of gaining access to significant amounts of relevant data. The Horizon 2020 funded PERCEPTIONS project has made use of social media data to develop an understanding of the nature of Europe and migration-related narratives online, and the potential threats and risks that may result from the dissemination of such narratives. With continued access to such data sources now being called into question, we explore the potential role of social media data in these research contexts and discuss the implications if access to these data sources continues to be threatened or removed.
