Abstract

DeFi protocols and their smart contracts can build on each other and thereby form compositions. The notions of composition and composability are often used in the literature. However, to the best of our knowledge, a general, technical, or theoretical definition describing such concepts appears to be missing in the academic literature. Therefore, we aim to define DeFi compositions and discuss them systematically by defining what is a DeFi composition in the Ethereum ecosystem, and how we can identify and measure protocol
compositions.
