Abstract
Metadata is a prerequisite for the maintenance of a geo-data warehouse, providing information to examine data content, validity, quality and thus applicability of geospatial data. Following the ISO 19115 standard and INSPIRE guidelines metadata must be delivered for geospatial data in a certain structure. Maintaining a user friendly reporting tool is thus the precondition for the user´s acceptance to provide proper data documentation.
The article will first give an overview of a selection of useful metadata tools and then describe the certain functionalities of the metadata reporting tool developed by the authors. To force users to deliver metadata properly, data upload is combined with metadata upload through this reporting tool, carried out as web-based graphical user interface with forms and pick lists with pre-defined alternatives. Additionally to upload,data-retrieval, download and preview is also included to ensure convenient data sharing.
The system is developed as Java Applet/Servlet system, hosted by an SQL-database.
