Abstract

Atrial fibrillation is the most common cardiac arrhythmia worldwide. In Austria, approximately every third person suffers from atrial fibrillation during their lifetime.
Atrial fibrillation is one of the main causes of strokes and increases the risk of heart failure and dementia. A Early diagnosis, combined with the available prophylactic therapies, such as blood thinning, could drastically reduce the risk. However, atrial fibrillation often causes no symptoms and therefore often remains unrecognised for a long time.
Study participants can use the app to check their finger pulse directly by placing their finger on the camera. The certified app uses this to recognise unrecognised atrial fibrillation. If a risk is recognised, a detailed assessment is carried out using an ECG (eectrocardiogram).
