Abstract

Electronic portal imaging devices (EPIDs) are a convenient tool for geometric as well as dosimetric IMRT verification. However, the use of such devices for dosimetric purposes requires a detailed knowledge of their dosimetric properties. The aim of this paper was to describe a method for acquiring portal dose images (PDIs) with an amorphous silicon (a-Si) EPID and to assess its accuracy. Three IMRT treatment plans in the energy range from 6 to 25 MV were verified on a field-by-field basis. Reference dose distributions were measured using radiographic films as well as a 2D matrix of ionization chambers.
