Abstract
MELODI is an efficient and flexible e-learning solution for teaching digital hardware development at TU Wien. It enables students to learn hardware description languages and the practical use of field-programmable gate arrays (FPGAs) and thus imparts essential knowledge for the development of modern hardware architectures. MELODI automates the task definition, validation, provision, and visualization of hardware, which greatly reduces the use of resources and saves time for TU Wien. It allows students to gain practical experience and to learn at their own pace. The system only requires internet access and an e-mail address and can therefore be used by all students equally and without any financial burden (e.g. for special hardware or a powerful computer).
MELODI thus represents a contemporary supplement to the proven classroom teaching (lectures, laboratory exercises).
