This thesis deals with development of a software tool for analyzing electrophoretic gel images in molecular biology laboratories. The main objective was to create an application for fast image manipulation and analysis, which enables maximal level of automation. The system includes several image filtering algorithms together with unique DNA fragements detection methods which have been patented. Inut of the sytem is the image file which is processed in various stages and as result a report file is created. Most of the software has been implemented in Visual Basic programming language while some algorithmic parts have been written in C language. System has been developed and then put into usage in the ARC Seibersdorf research GmbH and it will be presented as commercial product in the near future.
