Abstract
This paper presents optimization-based control
strategies to achieve efficient, highly dynamic, and safe
operation of pumped storage power plants. The tasks considered
are dynamic operation with amodel predictive control
strategy, optimal steering calculation for an emergency
shutdown, and operational optimization on the energy market.
The results show that optimization-based strategies play
an important role in the operation of pumped storage power
plants, in particular for plants containing different generator
types.
