Abstract

We use the spinor wave vector description of neutrons in a magnetic field to formulate the polarization characteristics of a wave packet influenced by Zeeman splitting of the spin components. The momentum and position distribution functions are calculated by using the related Wigner functions. The influence of fluctuations of the magnetic field is investigated and it is found that small fluctuations can destroy coherence effects completely which are visible in the Wigner function otherwise.
